WE’RE BUILDING OUR GD POP TOP!!

Updated: May 1, 2023

It’s really happening!! It’s really f’ing happening!!!

But we have A LOT of work to do to get it done.

When we bought our 1928 Bungalow home in Denver back in July of 2014, we were 3 weeks from delivering our daughter. We were just about to stop our home search and pick it back up sometime after she arrived.

But after being outbid on a few other places, at the last minute we found our home! When we first saw the house, we fell in love with it, but realized that although it was big on charm, it was small on space, and small on ceiling height (at least in the basement where our bedrooms were). If I remember it right, it was our realtor who made the suggestion that we could “pop the top” if we decided we wanted more space. The idea was planted and I did actually talk to one contractor shortly after we moved in about what that would entail and what it would cost. I remember thinking “that’s a shit ton of money.” Little did I know that would be cheap. I’d kill to have that price for this project. HA!

Fast forward nearly 9 years and the idea that was planted back in 2014 has grown into multiple full sets of plans, a working budget, discussions with multiple vendors, and (maybe most importantly) a bank that says we can pull this thing off with their help, and permits!! Sweet, wonderful permits!!! It’s also grown into a website and blog...

We are really excited to be at this point in the process and would love to share the journey with you all. We submitted our documents for our building permit in May of 2022 and 330 days later it is finally coming through. Yes. It took 330 days to get our permits, but more on that later…

Holy. Crap. WE’RE BUILDING OUR GD POP TOP!!!

Along this journey, we’ll give you the backstory of the past 2 and a half years and all it has taken to get here, and we’ll take you along with us from this point through completion. Maybe it’ll morph into something else after that? Who the hell knows?! Right now we do know there’s a lot of work to do that we’re happy to share with you!

Pitter patter….let’s get at ‘er!

Thanks for reading!
